DHC C-7A "Caribou"
Walkaround Part I.
18 years ago in 2007 I had an opportunity to personally take pictures of a very interesting cargo plane named Caribou. The C-7A cargo plane was a twin-engine, short take off and landing (STOL) utility transport, that was built in 1958 by De Havilland Aircraft of Canada. Many of us know that Caribou was used by many countries around the world, especially by the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War in the late 60s and 70s. It was a successful mission airplane. My very good friend, some of you may know him well from our meetings, Phil Pignataro was also a former Caribou pilot during the Vietnam war and we will also be sharing more amazing stories in the future.
Many of us owned in our collection a Hobby Craft model kit in 1/72 scale. It is a decent kit; but it required some adjustments to wings and the correction of exhausts. I also believe there are some resin detail sets for interior, engines, flaps, wheels, and some decals available in our market. It is also one of my favorite aircraft and I’m sharing some of our references. I’m including some of my collection pictures and I hope it will be useful for your future build. Part II. C-7 References – coming soon…..
