The Sd.Kfz.251 armoured halftrack transporter, also known as the “Hakl”, was produced from late 1939 to the end of the war in thousand-piece series of various versions.
It served on practically every battlefield from the start of the war until the fall of Germany. Despite certain imperfections it enabled the German infantry, fighting a modern mobile war, to keep up with the tank units of the Wehrmacht, it provided them with protection and essential supporting firepower.

After the end of the war hundreds of these commandeered vehicles were put into service in the Czechoslovakian army. Subsequently, in 1954 the Tatra company in Czechoslovakia developed a new armoured transporter, the OT 810, based on the Sd.Kfz.251, with a Tatra diesel engine.
Between 1953 – 1963 PPS Detva produced 1501 of these vehicles. The book describes the reasons for the creation of the Sd.Kfz.251 in Germany, its development and production, all versions and their armament. Their deployment on all battle fronts in the years 1939 – 1945. The book is complete with colour photographs showing details of these vehicles.
