In 1977, Egypt ordered 16 Mirage 5E2 aircraft, originally intended to be financed with Saudi support. The Mirage 5E2 was a dedicated fighter-bomber equipped with advanced Aida II navigation and attack systems, including the SAGEM ULISS 81 inertial navigation system, a HUD, and a Thomson-CSF TMV630 laser rangefinder and target designator, providing significantly improved precision strike capability. Following the Camp David Accords in 1978, Saudi Arabia withdrew financial support, and Egypt completed the acquisition independently. Deliveries began in 1983 alongside Dassault-Breguet Alpha Jet aircraft. The Mirage 5E2 fleet served with the Egyptian Air Force’s 73rd Squadron based at Marsa Matruh Air Base, later receiving locally developed chaff and flare countermeasure upgrades, with surviving aircraft reportedly transferred to Pakistan in 2019.
This conversion set allows the modeller to accurately recreate the Mirage 5E2 configuration in 1/48 scale and includes cast resin parts (nose section, laser rangefinder unit with T-type antenna, vertical rear cockpit antenna, Barracuda RWR antennas for front and rear tail, and MOHAFIZ countermeasure system for the right rear fuselage) as well as 3D-printed parts (instrument panel).
