UMM01 UMM™ Scriber SCR-01 "Universal"

I'm an occasional modeler, and I do more of collecting. Some of my collections are excellent monogram releases which of course contained raised lines. When I got the scriber, I did admit that I was skeptical if it really worked, and initially I made mistakes on scribing using the push pull technique. (trust me: please practice first on scrap kits or else...) But when I got the groove, now, I can't imagine using other tools. I've used dymo, needles chucked into a scalpel holder, blades, saws, and nothing comes close this. ( as a quick point for 1st time user, just take your time and simply follow either a line you drawn to follow, dymo tape, or, what I do now, follow the raised panel lines). As a testament that I love this product I've scribed the airfix harrier, the monogram B-25J and B-25G, and revell A-6E intruder!

I've been modeling since the first few plastic kits were offered back in the 50's. I've used too many tools to count and tossed just as many. But this tool, the UMM01 UMM Scriber SCR-01 Universal is a keeper. If defining panel lines after a few coats of paint is desirable then use this tool. I've tried others over the years but this one is a natural. Pay attention and it stays in the panel lines cutting as deep as you want to go. I lost mine, so as important as they are to my modeling I purchased two. And they were delivered very quickly all the way to America. Try it!

I have both the universal and micro, bets ever. Now have to replace the universal one, dropped it and dulled it. ARG.... Get that order going please :)

Just wanted to tell you how much I like the SCR-01 Scriber. I’ve been using it for a few months now. It provides such control that I re-scribe lines totally freehand without any scribing templates or aids. I have all of the scribing tools from Testors to Tamiya but they don’t compare to your SCR-01….such a simple yet masterful design. Thanks Glenn Hoover (Gloucester City, NJ)

Best scribe tool EVER, get it.

A bit skeptical when I first purchased this item from John, it quickly became my favorite tool for scribing. In fact, it has become one of my absolute essential tools on the bench!

I have looked every where locally for the JH Biplane rigging jig, I found it here at UMM-USA. I placed an order and in my hurry to order I missed Johns notice on the front page about how to order from overseas for postage costs. John e-mailed almost immediatly with the international postage cost and a offer to cancel the order if I wanted. My mistake but great customer service!! I've recently starting buying tools from umm, this scriber is THEE tool for seam repair and panel lines. Im working on Hasagawa's f-104c and I screwed up the seam by the vertical stabilizer. Carefully I worked with this tool, you will find that the different aspects of this tool make it more than a scriber,and saved my bird. Thank you for creating this tool.I will always look here FIRST for new tools I need,keep on gluing!

I'm a beginner in this modelling business, I bought umm-usa scriber to give it a try, and let me tell you that is a great tool! It is easy to use, and it does the job very clean. 100% recommended!

I've used a lot of scribing tools over the years with various degrees of success. Control of the tool is usually the reason for inconsistent results. When I received the UMM Scriber, it was immediately obvious that it was in a different league, and initial tests were very pleasing. It's beautifully designed, can handle both push- and pull-scribing, and scribing by direct pressure. It's nicely balanced, and the fact that it's flat allows far greater control over position and pressure on the material being worked. I cannot recommend this tool highly enough! I'm actually looking forward to projects where I have to use it, and I will be getting at least one more as a backup (just in case :).

SCR-01 is merely magic. This is the innovative and effective tool purposedely designed to scribe. Use it!!

I've been building mostly 1/72 scale model aircraft for 38 years and I can honestly say that the UMM scriber is one of the most useful tools I have ever purchased. I've been building scale models on and off for fifty-two years. I've also been making my own tools for over thirty years when I couldn't find one to suit my needs. This isn't a good tool—it's a GREAT TOOL! I wish I'd had it when I started my current project, and I'm extremely glad I bought one in the middle of the project. It is very nearly the ideal scribing tool. I only use the scriber I made for very fine work or hard to reach areas—and I find I'm using it less and less. This tool cuts very clean lines, with almost no need to clean debris out of the scribed line, or to brush solvent cement along the line. The straight scriber (opposite the hooked end) is a little difficult to master, but I've seen Jon do amazing things with it. In short, it does what it's supposed to do extremely well. It is important to remember to use a very light touch, especially when starting a line. The weight of the tool, lightly held in your fingers, is enough. You will also have to use metal scribing guides, as the tool is so sharp it will cut into plastic (for those who use Dymo label tape.) There are a few things I think would improve the tool, BUT these are relatively minor. The first is length: I wish it were about three inches longer, or even a little more. This would make it easier to control, and would make it easier to get it into restricted spaces (such as near a wing root on an aircraft). Jon has told me he may come out with a longer version. The thickness of the tool sometimes makes it difficult to see exactly what you are doing. I also wrapped a bit of grip tape around the middle, which improves handling and makes it easier for my thick fingers to pick up. I've often said that: "The only tool you can afford is the best tool you can find." This is the best tool you can find.

I have now used this UMM scriber for couple of projects and I have to say that I like it a lot. I used to have a variety of different tools for different scribing challenges but now I can do approx 90 % of all scribing with this one tool. I have found this modeling tool to be one the most versatile I have ever used, ever since a friend of mine did let me try his, while I was scribing one of my Monogram kits. Talk about getting hooked, the scribe lines were crisp and clean and the rest of the tool features meant that I did not have to put down the tool, to use the trusty E-acto #11 blade to perform the rest of the clean up and model part preparation. I am a long time modeler who is always looking for new items to make my modeling easier and better. I have been a great fan of the UMM saw ever since I first saw it at a contest. It has enabled me to perform fine cuts and some scribing that I couldn't accomplish before. Recently, I saw the UMM Scriber. I purchased one right away and have been pleased with my early experiments with the tool. I find that the scriber easily allows me to rescribe lines that have been erased by sanding etc. It is a great tool and is giving me the confidence to take on some additional scribing on some models.
